Opening Night at 1014: Monument & Memorial: Fritz Koenig Sphere at the World Trade Center and its Legacy

Opening night of the exhibition Monument & Memorial: Fritz Koenig’s Sphere at the World Trade Center and its Legacy. In celebration of German modernist sculptor Fritz Koenig’s 100th birthday.

The exhibition at 1014 explores the creation, installation, destruction, and rebirth of Koenig’s most famous New York City work, the “Great Caryatid Sphere”. This large-scale bronze sculpture stood proudly between the Twin Towers before the 9/11 attacks and has become a powerful symbol of resilience.

The opening reception will feature short remarks by Dr. Alexandra v. Arnim, Director of the KOENIGmuseum Landshut, Dr. Holger A. Klein, curator of the exhibition and Lisa and Bernard Selz Professor of Medieval Art History, Columbia University, and Gordon Huie, New Yorker and survivor of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
