USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and Marshall School of Business, together with the City of Los Angeles and a number of companies and other organizations, are working to design an Internet of Things (IoT) meta-layer to establish a controlled data river between users and device owners. This data-centric ecosystem will encourage and accelerate IoT adoption by providing a managed, trusted environment for device owners to reach data brokers and user-facing applications. At this event, we will formally launch an open consortium that is being formed to realize this vision. Consortium partners will have access to a test bed that allows functional validation, scalabity testing, and economic evaluation of IoT principles, products, and services. Ultimately, consortium members will create an open source deliverable that allows communities to rapidly deploy and realize IoT benefits supported by a range of I3 consortium partners.
